THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOUNDTRACK #7
papur wal
All-time favourite album:
Jackson Browne - Saturate Before Use (Ianto), Steely Dan - Aja (Guto), Drugdealer - Raw Honey (Gwion)
Favourite Welsh language album:
No hot takes here! Super Furry Animals - Mwng
Favourite album by a Welsh band/artist:
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - How I Long To Feel That Summer In My Heart
Favourite new Welsh band/artist:
Y Dail
Dream festival headliners:
The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Big Star
An underrated band/artist:
The Lemon Twigs. Easily the best band of our generation. More locally Mellt, they're our mates so we're biased but they should be world-renowned and we're hyped for their next album.
A song that reminds you of a particular memory:
The Velvet Underground - All Tomorrow's Parties. We went to the European Championships in 2016 as cash-strapped students and I distinctly remember listening to this by the pool in Toulouse during our 3 week pilgrimage. It was an Airbnb for 4 split between 12 of us I think.
Go to album when you’re down:
Something country maybe to really feel sorry for yourself? Ianto and Guto are really into The Flying Burrito Brothers' self-titled album at the moment
An album that gets you worked up:
Lou Reed - The Blue Mask
A lyric that resonates with you:
Graham Nash's first verse and chorus on Military Madness which are the opening lyrics sang on the amazing Songs for Beginners album. “In an upstairs room in Blackpool, by the side of a northern sea, the army had my father and my mother was having me. Military Madness was killing my country, solitary Sadness comes over me.”
